Rare Vintage Traditional Hopi Kachina (Katsina) of, "Moisture Maiden, " Initialed by'CT' in Aged Condition. 9" H x 6" W x 1 Thick with string attached to back for hanging. Older Kachinas are scarce and, therefore more valuable as collector pieces, especially with most parts still attached. The Moisture Maiden Kachina represented an essential spiritual being present at Hopi annual ceremonies, as the tribe would pray for fertile soil, and productive harvest so dependent on abundant rainfall.
Moisture prevented famine which in turn prevented starvation. This Kachina represents the period of time when Hopi carvers just began to sign the foot of their work by placing their initials, circa 1960s, which later evolved into full name signatures. We strive to be 5 star sellers.
