Fox Letaiyo Kachina Doll Signed Vintage 13 Tall
Letaiyo or Fox Kachina may appear in the Soyohim dances as a spirit dancer, but usually he is personated as a runner. He dresses very simply in order that he may run more rapidly. As a Soyohim dancer, he appears in line with the other kachinas.
Usually there is a track with only three toes on the face of this kachina. The kachina in this listing has the traditional large yellow face with 3 sets of the 3 toe tracks over each eye. He has a large snout covered partly with white fur and painted with black, red, and white markings. The top of his head is a patch of white fur on a graphic of red and turquoise outlined in black.
On top of his head are real feathers with a fan of white fur draping down his back. His shoulders and wrists are covered with white fur. Small white circles are painted on his gray arms. He is hand carved from wood. His skirt is leather and is embellished with real shells. He is balanced on one foot on a slice of tree wood; both feet are painted a blue turquoise color. His right leg shows above the fur to be painted gray with white circles like his arms. In his right hand he holds a spear and in his left hand a bow. He is 13 inches tall. This kachina is vintage, dated on the bottom 12-29-99, and is in very excellent condition. It is signed by the artist on the bottom, the first name is Brian and I believe the last name to be Endillo.
